Coalition Work
Working in coalition with other Massachusetts organizations to advocate and organize around predatory lending issues, including providing leadership and support to the MA Alliance Against Predatory Lending, representing community-based organizations in systemic policy campaigns around predatory lending issues,coordinating work with other legal services attorneys and advocates working in the consumer law area, particularly around foreclosure prevention, relying on the expertise of the National Consumer Law Center in this area, and coordinating with national organizations, such as the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC), the National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA), the National Association of Consumer Attorneys (NACA) and others to advocate for law reform and systemic changes in lending laws and for broad based foreclosure remedies on a national level.
Education and Outreach Activities
We engage in community outreach and education activities with housing counselors, community organizations and homeowners, education them to assist low-income homeowners in identifying predatory lending practices and providing information on their legal rights and remedies as well as information about various loan refinancing and modification programs.; We conduct trainings for housing counselors and work with community organizations such as City Life/Vida Urbana and the Chelsea Collaborative, to provide information directly to homeowners facing foreclosure.
